The Vespa SXL series has been using the 125cc engine for a long time and now Vespa has decided to give it an upgraded 150cc engine. The SXL possess same mechanical features to its twin sibling VXL 150 which also sports the same engine. The company has developed both the VXL and SXL by taking inspiration from the LX 50 model.
Design
What makes the SXL different from VXL in the cosmetic department at first look is the square headlamps as the latter comes with a round shaped headlamp. In the SXL 150, a square shaped chrome frame forms the boundary for the headlamp unit and it is carefully assembled in the front apron.
The headlamps are complemented by chrome stylized rear view mirrors and it gives a premium look to the scooter. The presence of chrome bumper guards at the front also gives the SXL 150 a distinctive look on the road. The V-shaped grill on the front apron, rider friendly seats, 5-spoke alloy set and a digital-analogue console are some of the cosmetic features of this scooter.
Instrument Cluster
A beautiful cluster is provided in this scooter that comes with trendy design and colours to provide style and better visibility at night.
The instrument cluster is a mix of analogue and digital that gives a reflection of the modern and retro styled overall making of the Vespa. The speedometer is analogue while the fuel indicator and other details are provided in a sperate digital screen. The turn indicators and other light indicators are displayed are placed around the dash board to provide better visibility.
Seat
A premium and stylish seat is provided that comes with a luxurious padding for long rides. The spacious seat is comfortable to sit for two persona and suits riders of all ages.
The spacious seat comes with neat black and white stitching lines complimented by a pillion grab. At the side of this luxurious seat, a key lock can be spotted that can be to the under-seat storage of this scooter where basic essentials like sports wear, sunglasses, books and other things can be stored safely. The under seat storage is big enough for carrying essentials in and around while riding.
Engine
Vespa SXL 150 is powered by a 150cc engine delivering a maximum power of 11.6 Ps and 11.5 Nm of torque. The SXL 150 is good for riding at higher speeds as it is refined to make fewer vibrations. This is also one of the advantages of SXL 150. In spite of being a powerful scooter, the Vespa SXL 150 deliver top class mileage.
A continuous Variable Transmission system is used for transmission is employed to provide a balanced power output at all rev ranges. The 150cc engine is refined to provide vibration free performance at all speeds. The engine showcases quick acceleration and is stable at higher speeds.
Braking and Suspension
The suspension duties of the SXL and VXL series are the same with the Aircraft derived single side arm with Anti-drive characteristics at the front side and a Dual-Effect Hydraulic Shock absorber at the rear are provided to give more comfort to the rider as well as the pillion rider and gives a safer and relaxed ride in and across the city.
The breaking of the Vespa is done with Ventilated Disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. With the addition of good braking system, good five-spoke alloy wheels are also employed by Piaggio to enhance the riding comfort and provide more stability at high speeds and in all terrains. The alloy wheels are matched with broader tubeless tyres in the SXL 150 to provides a safer ride.
