Yamaha is expanding its scooter portfolio with a new addition. The Yamaha D'elight, which has been spotted testing on the Indian roads, is expected to be launched soon during the first half of 2015. The D'elight is designed to have retro looks, with a round headlight and an overall design that may remind you of the Vespa. In the international market, the Yamaha D'elight is run by a fuel injected 114cc motor. But its Indian version would probably adopt the 113cc single cylinder engine as seen on the existing Ray and Alpha models. When launched, the D'elight is bound to win the hearts of the people and pose serious competition to the Vespa due to its comparatively cheaper price. However, the D'elight would be placed as a premium offering and would be priced marginally higher than the Alpha and Ray models.

Codenamed as 04X, this scooter would be manufactured at Yamaha's upcoming scooter production facility at Chennai. Based on the architectural design of the Yamaha Nozza Grande that was launched in Vietnam in 2015, this scooter is expected to generate around 8PS of peak power and 9.5Nm of torque. Hero Dash
This year seems to be a "scooteristic" year for Hero MotoCorp, as 2015 can witness the launch of yet another scooter from the company which is to be christened as the Dash. A pretty elegant scooter which is pitched above the Hero Maestro, this scooter would compete with the TVS Jupiter, Honda Activa and the Yamaha Alpha in the scooter segment. To add more spice to the competition, this scooter is loaded with plenty of features like an external fuel lid, drum brakes with an Integrated Braking System (similar to Honda's Combi Braking System), maintenance free battery, telescopic front forks, alloy wheels and tubeless tyres. The Hero Dash would also feature a large under-seat storage space with light and mobile charger, along with a digital-cum-analogue instrument console with a side stand, low fuel and service due indicators. The power of the Dash would be derived from an 111cc, air-cooled motor that produces 8.5PS of maximum power and 9.4Nm of peak torque.

Hero Leap
This year, Hero MotoCorps seems to have taken a pledge to not restrict its scooters to internal combustion engines itself. As was showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo, the Leap would soon leap out from under its veils. A serial hybrid scooter with an 8KW electric motor and 124cc petrol mill, this little hero has got a small 3-litre fuel tank and a range of 340km, which indicates that this one is going to be really efficient. The seeming drawback of this scooter would be its weight at 140kg, which is mainly due to the large lithium-ion battery powering it. It's got 240mm discs up front and drum brakes for its rear wheels. This Leap would be leaping at the international markets first before debuting in the Indian markets.

Piaggio Liberty
The Italian brand Piaggio introduced the Vespa into the Indian markets and now it has come with yet another addition to its portfolio- the Liberty. However, when compared to the Vespa, the Liberty seems to be more utilitarian for daily use. Powering the scooter would be the same 125cc engine that runs the Vespa, but this time it would minus the 3-valve technology in order to cut cost and to deliver better fuel efficiency. The major features of the Liberty would be the 14-inch wheels - compared to the 10-inch found on most other scooters in the Indian markets- electronic immobiliser and disc brakes.

The Fly 125 is an electric start vehicle with a super-efficient 3-valve 125cc engine for lower emissions. It is also armed with a hydraulic shock absorber with a pre-load adjuster. The maximum power guaranteed by this scooter is 14bhp at 9750rpm and the maximum torque stands out at 12Nm at 8000rpm. With a classic Italian design that offers high comfort level and precised safety, the Fly is completely worth its shot. This vehicle is expected to give tough competition to the Honda Activa, Suzuki Swish and Mahindra Duro.

Vespa 946
The Vespa 946 has already created a buzz in the scooter segment due to its high price which actually seems to be quite reasonable for a single cylinder 125cc, 3 valve petrol engine that gives 11.7bhp of power and 10.3Nm of torque, which is mated to a CVT automatic transmission. The body is made of sheet steel with Aluminium elements, including the handlebar, paddle support, side panels and front mud guard. The scooter gets an ABS braking system and ASR electronic traction control. It rides on two large 12-inch wheels and is brought to a stop by dual disc brakes. It also features a full LCD dashboard, LED headlamp/tail lamp and signal turn indicators. This can be treated as a work of art powered by an engine.
